Athens, 07.06.2023 – Export Credit Greece S.A. was elected by its European counterparts as an Observer in the Business Advisory Group (BAG) of the EU’s Global Gateway strategy (GG), during the meeting of the EU Export Credit Agencies. (4th EU ECA Summit), held in Malaga, Spain, on 26 May 2023.
This is a very important election for our country. Through its participation in this group, Export credit Greece S.A. will be able to contribute its many years of expertise and its valuable experience and good practices from modern business at an international level, and thus actively contribute to the implementation of the Global Gateway strategy, the main objective of which is the collaboration between the European Union and the private sector in order to realise significant investments for the development of infrastructure internationally.
The CEO of Export Credit Greece, Gregory Stamatopoulos, who will represent the Agency in the role of Observer, stated the following: “The EU Global Gateway Initiative” is fully in line with Europe’s objectives for sustainable development and is the one that will bring businesses one step closer to the institutions, attracting capital and investment. After 35 consecutive years of working alongside Greek exporters, we have gained a strong in-depth understanding of modern entrepreneurship and the new requirements/needs of international trade. Through the Business Advisory Group we will strengthen the European Commission’s collaboration with the private sector, bringing the real needs of the market to the Group and raising challenges and opportunities in individual sectors or regions”.
The Global Gateway Strategy was presented in December 2021 by the European Commission and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. This is a Union strategy for major investments in infrastructure development around the world. It aims to invest in projects that can be delivered with high standards, good governance and transparency while supporting sustainable and reliable connections, in the service of people and the planet. Work with host countries, financial institutions and the private sector to scale up infrastructure investment to boost our competitiveness, deliver benefits and protection for our partners, empower local communities and address the most pressing global challenges we face today, from climate change and sustainable development to health security, gender equality and education systems.
Using all the financial and development tools at the EU’s disposal and with the support of EU Member States that have expressed their strong commitment, Global Gateway aims to mobilise up to €300 billion of investment by 2027.
The purpose of the Business Advisory Group is to support the European Commission in strengthening collaboration with the European private sector, to reinforce the strategic priorities, activities, challenges and opportunities in the areas covered by the Global Gateway strategy and to exchange information with the President of the European Commission, Ms Ursula von der Leyen. The Global Getaway Business Advisory Group will consist of up to sixty (60) members, European companies or business associations, represented by their CEOs or senior executives and ten (10) observers, including EU financial institutions and Export Credit Agencies, one of which is Export Credit Greece S.A.
